Two Schools Of Thought

In ancient Greece two schools, both studying medicine, had opposing views.

Hippocrates a teacher who had firm beliefs that the body was capable of healing itself with it's natural defense system. The "natural healer within" needed to be stimulated in order for this system to work to it's full potential in the process of eliminating disease. He mainly prescribed on the law of similars but did believe that the law of opposites played a substantial role for application in regimen (e.g. lacking a vitamin, take that vitamin).

Another school tough by Aesklepedian did not believe that the body had these self curative abilities. In fact, they believed that the efforts of the body to restore balance would only add to the problem. Therefore, he prescribed medicines that had an opposite action to the symptoms of the patient. This distrust led to the physician to intervene far too often. Both the Hippocratic and Aesklepedian forms of healing were based on experience therefore lacking principles of their actions. By observations they had knowledge but no way to make it fundamentally effective.

A third perspective was taken by Galen who agreed with Hippocrates statement of the body natural healing. Although, he decided to take a different path in his studies. He did not study based on observation, but on pure facts and principles (philosophically).

Hahnemann gave the first effective way on how to implement the medicine by "provings." To this day practitioners use the experience and knowledge (materia medica, repertory, organon, etc.) of past generations of people who were way ahead of their time.

The dominant medicine of today is a branch of the Aesklepedian schools. Their distrust in the bodies own defense causes them intervene too often. They do not trust the body yet after using surgery or miracle drugs they rely on immune stimulants to help the body fully recover quickly and properly. The medicines are mostly based on the law of opposites, many have the word "anti" first. Although, some of the medicines they prescribe does act to produce similar symptoms, but because of the toxic dose they can do more harm than good. They were not applying the law based on it's proper principles, intending their medicines to cure based on the law of opposites when all it can do is suppress.

We also have a takeoff on the Hippocratic schools, Natural or Holistic medicine. Some follow the law of similars (homeopathy) with the intent of curing and some follow the law of opposites which suppresses (herbs) or if used in regimen supports the sustentive aspect. Both laws have their appropriate uses when their principles are followed and not changed or mutated.
